The classes for the book "The Role of the Women in Rectifying the Community" by Shaykh Al-Uthaymeen (rahimullaah ta'ala) have been completed, maashaa Allaah. May Allaah subhanahu wa ta'ala reward our noble brother for his efforts, and for his patience, Aameen.
May Allaah subhanahu wa ta'ala reward all of you, for attending the classes akhwaat, and for your patience, as well Aameen.
May Allaah subhanahu wa ta'ala allow all of you to have gained much benefit, and increase you, Aameen. Inshaa Allaah ta'al we will implement what we have learned, in order to rectify our communities, inshaa Allaah ta'ala.
We will have a break for a week, and then inshaa Allaah ta'ala our noble brother will begin the tafsir of Surah An-Nisa'.

this is great naseeha (advise) and clarification on some matters of the salaah pertaining to women specifically. may Allaah increase our women in such qualities, aameen. here are the words of shaykh al-albaani (rahimahullaah):

“As for [the question], is it [correct] for the woman to raise her voice with aameen, then the question [needs] elaboration. If she is praying with women, then yes. As for if she is praying with men [and] they are strange men [i.e., non-mahram], then no. Because the voice of a woman, I do not say that it is ‘awrah [something private to be covered] as many say, because the mothers of the believers and the wives of the first companions (sahaaba) used to speak with men and used to communicate with men, and oftentimes the woman used to come to the Prophet (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam), and she [would] ask him in front of the men, and he (‘alayhi ssalaat wa ssalaam) [would] answer her regarding her question.

But [here], it is not from the manners/etiquettes of the woman that she raises her voice with the recitation of the Qur’aan. We are often asked – is it permissible for the woman, when she is learning the recitation from a shaykh [who is] a reciter [of the Qur'aan], to repeat to him the recitation in order to [know] how it is correct [i.e., correctly recited] – no, the answer is no. Although she learns, her learning is restricted to listening only, as learned the women of all the sahaaba from the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) by listening to his recitation, during salaah or outside of salaah.

The woman, if she is praying with women, and she is an imaam, she raises her voice, and the women behind her also raise their voices. That is due to his saying, (‘alayhi ssalaat wa ssalaam): ‘Indeed women are the twin halves of men’…i.e., every ruling that came in which the men are being addressed, then the women also enter into [or are included in] this address, except what is made an exception… A woman, for example…it is more excellent for her, in other than the taraaweeh prayer, to pray in her house; while the man, it is obligatory upon him to pray the five prayers in the masjid in congregation. So here, the woman is different from the man. But the origin is, as he said, (‘alayhi ssalaam): ‘Indeed women are the twin halves of men.’

So if the woman prays with the women as an imaam, she does just as the man does as an imaam. She raises her voice with the recitation [of the Qur'aan], and she raises her voice with aameen, and [the women] also raise their voices from behind her with aameen. This is firstly. And secondly, the woman prays as an imaam with the women, and not only that, rather, she [also] gives the adhaan and the iqaamah… Why? Because of the previous hadeeth: ‘Indeed women are the twin halves of men.’ More than this, asayyida ‘Aaisha, the mother of the believers, and the leader of the mothers of the believers in terms of fiqh (understanding of the religion), knowledge and da’wah, and may Allaah bless her and her father, used to give the adhaan and the iqaamah when she prayed with the women as an imaam.

And here there is an admonition which there is no question about – the woman here differs as well from the man, as she does not step up before the row of the women, but rather she stands in the middle as if she is one [of the women] from the row. She does not step up before/lead the women [as the man does]. [For] this also, there has come a text regarding it; therefore, in this situation of the woman, she does not enter [or is not included in] the generality of his saying, (‘alayhi ssalaam): ‘Indeed women are the twin halves of men.’”

Question:

If ”Eid Al-/ Fitr or Eid Al-Adha fell on Friday, . In this case what should be done? Should we pray Zuhr if we dont offer the Friday prayer, or is there no requirement for it if we do not perform the Friday prayer?
Answer:

Whoever prayed the Eid prayer on Friday, it is permitted for him not to attend the Friday prayer on that day, except for the Imam, for he is obliged to perform it for whoever wishes to attend it -be they from among those who attended the Eid prayer , or those who did not attend it . If no one attends the Friday prayer , he is relieved of its obligation and he should offer the Zhur prayer. In saying this, the scholars cite as evidence the narration of Abu Dawud in his Sunan, on the authority of Iyyas bin Abi Ramlah Ash-Shami, who said : I witnessed Mu’awiyyah bin Abi Sufyan, may Allah be pleased with him , asking Zaid bin Arqam: Did you witness two Eids falling on the same day with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhe was salaam ? He said : Yes . He asked : ” And what did he do ? He replied : ” He offered the Eid prayer , then he gave permission for those who wished, to perform the Friday prayer , saying : Whoever wants to pray, then let him pray . (Abu Dawud no . 1070)

Also cited as evidence is the narration of Abu Dawud in his Sunan, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhe was salaam , which states that he said : Two Eids have fallen on this day, so whoever wished, it will siffice him instead of the Friday prayer; and we are offering the Friday prayer.( Abu Dawud no 1074)

This proves that it is allowed on Fridays for those who have attended the Eid prayer not to perform the Friday prayer , but that the Imam is not excused, because he sallallahu alayhe was salaam said : And we are offering the Friday prayer.

Also cited as evidence is the narration of Muslim, on the authority of An-Nu’man bin Bashir, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet sallallahu alayhe was salaam used to recite Surah Al-A’la and Surah Al-Ghashiyah in the Eid prayers and the Friday prayers and he might have prayed both of them one day and recited them in both prayers ( Muslim no 878) So whoever does not attend the Friday prayer from among those who have prayed the Eid prayer, he must pray it as Zhur , in accordance with the evidences which prove that it is obligatory to offer the Zhur prayer for those who do not attend the Friday Prayer .

Fasting on the Day of Arafat 1430 (26 November 2009)

FASTING THE DAY OF ’ARAFAH:

The ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah is the day of ’Arafah, since it is on this day that the pilgrims gather at the mountain plain of ’Arafah, praying and supplicating to their Lord.

It is mustahabb (highly recommended) for those who are not pilgrims to fast on this day, since the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) was asked about fasting on the day of ’Arafah, so he said, “It expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year.” [4]

Likewise, the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘There is no day on which Allaah frees people from the Fire more so than on the day of ’Arafah. He comes close to those (people standing on ’Arafah), and then He reveals before His Angels saying, ‘What are these people seeking.” [5]

Imaam at-Tirmidhee (d.275H) – rahimahullaah – said, “The People of Knowledge consider it recommended to fast on the day of ’Arafah, except for those at ’Arafah.” [6]

About the Book:

The book before you is an explanation of a concise yet great work written
by a noble Scholar of Islaam from the twelth century of Islaam, known
as Muhammad Ibn Abdul-Wahhaab. He compiled this work, called "The Three
Fundamental Principles", in order to make clear to the people the core
and fundamental principles upon which Islaam is established.

Shaikh Muhammad Ibn Abdul-Wahhaab took these principles from the texts of

creed. All of this are falsehoods easily repelled by the legacy of
authorship that he left behind, which clearly show that he was neither
an extremist, nor a deviant, rather his works show that he was a true

Dear Muslim sister! Come towards the gates of Paradise with us! Fulfill your duties towards Allaah, put on your adornment - put on your hijaab, and race towards Jannah (Paradise) by doing all good actions.

This is a good question and there is a beautiful answer! Allaah has commanded us with every action that is good for us and prohibited us from performing every action that is bad for us. Allaah orders the Muslim woman to wear the hijaab when she steps out of the security of her home or when in the presence of strange men. So to wear the hijaab is a source of great good for you – the Muslim woman - for many reasons. Among them:

1. You please Allaah. You are obeying the commands of your Lord when you wear the hijaab and you can expect great rewards in return.
2. It is Allaah’s protection of your natural beauty. You are too precious to be "on display" for each man to see.
3. It is Allaah’s preservation of your chastity.
4. Allaah purifies your heart and mind through the hijaab.
5. Allaah beautifies your inner and outer countenance with hijaab. Outwardly your hijaab reflects innocence, purity, modesty, shyness, serenity, contentment and obedience to your Lord. Inwardly you cultivate the same.
6. Allaah defines your femininity through the hijaab. You are a woman who respects her womanhood. Allaah wants you to be respected by others, and for you to respect yourself.
7. Allaah raises your dignity through the hijaab. When a strange man looks at you, he respects you because he sees that you respect yourself.
8. Allaah protects your honour 100% through your hijaab. Men do not gaze at you in a sensual way, they do not approach you in a sensual way, and neither do they speak to you in a sensual way. Rather, a man holds you in high esteem and that is just by one glance at you!
9. Allaah gives you nobility through the hijaab. You are noble not degraded because you covered not naked.
10. Allaah demonstrates your equality as a Muslim woman through the hijaab. Your Lord bestows upon you equal worth as your male counterpart, and gives you a host of beautiful rights and liberties. You express your acceptance of these unique rights by putting on the hijaab.
11. Allaah defines your role as a Muslim woman through the hijaab. You are a someone with important duties. You are a reflection of a woman of action not idle pursuits. You display your sense of direction and purpose through your hijaab. You are someone that people take seriously.
12. Allaah expresses your independence through the hijaab. You are stating clearly that you are an obedient servant of the Greatest Master. You will obey no one else and follow no other way. You are not a slave to any man, nor a slave to any nation. You are free and independent from all man-made systems.
13. Allaah gives you the freedom of movement and expression through the hijaab. You are able to move about and communicate without fear of harassment. Your hijaab gives you a unique confidence.
14. Allaah wants others to treat you – a Muslim woman - with kindness. And the hijaab brings about the best treatment of men towards you.
15. Allaah wants your beauty to be preserved and saved for just one man to enjoy – your husband.
16. Allaah helps you to enjoy a successful marriage through wearing hijaab. Because you reserve your beauty for one man alone, your husband’s love for you increases, he cherishes you more, he respects you more and he honours you more. So your hijaab contributes to a successful and lasting marriage relationship.
17. Allaah brings about peace and stability in the society through the hijaab! Yes this is true! Men do not cause corruption by forming illegal relationships because you - the Muslim woman - calm their passions. When a man looks at you, he feels at ease, not tempted to fornicate…

So a Muslim woman in hijaab is dignified, not dishonoured, noble, not degraded, liberated, not subjugated, purified, not sullied, independent, not a slave, protected, not exposed, respected, not laughed at, confident, not insecure, obedient, not a sinner, a guarded pearl, not a prostitute…

Dear Muslim sister! Come towards the gates of Paradise with us! Fulfill your duties towards Allaah, put on your adornment - put on your hijaab, and race towards Jannah (Paradise) by doing all good actions. You should agree by now that wearing hijaab is extremely beneficial – it must be - because Allaah only commands what is good…

…and believe me dear sister, it is good to obey the commands of your Lord…

Long Island landscaper tried to run over two Muslim women, police say

A landscaper with a virulent hatred of Islam tried to run over two Muslim women at a Smithtown, L.I., gas station after threatening to kill them, police said.

Joseph Ballance, 23, pleaded not guilty yesterday to aggravated harassment in the Aug. 20 confrontation.

It came less than a week after an Ecuadoran man was beaten and robbed in an alleged bias attack in Suffolk County.

Ballance approached 49-year-old Chervern Cartier and her 20-year-old daughter, who were wearing traditional Muslim robes, in a Smithtown service station parking lot, authorities said.

After hurling epithets at the women and threatening to "chop you up into little pieces and kill you," Ballance spat on their car and drove his own toward them before driving off, according to police and a court complaint.

The self-employed landscaper later told investigators, "They don't belong here," Detective Sgt. Robert Reecks said.

Ballance is being held on $10,000 cash bond. If convicted, he could face up to four years in prison.

The women were not hurt.

German city honors Egyptian woman slain in court

DRESDEN, Germany (AP) — Hundreds of people carrying white roses gathered Saturday on the steps of Dresden's city hall in honor of an Egyptian woman who was fatally stabbed by a defendant in a German courtroom.

Marwa al-Sherbini, a pregnant 31-year-old pharmacist, was stabbed 18 times in a court where she was to have testified against a young Russian-born German. She had filed a complaint against him in 2008 accusing him of insulting her with racial slurs.

The public memorial, organized by local civil rights groups, drew more than 1,000 people, including the Egyptian ambassador and officials from the state of Saxony, where the July 1 stabbing took place.

Mourners brought single white roses that they laid beneath large photos of the dead woman.

Al-Sherbini was stabbed as her 3-year-old son looked on. Her husband was injured when he intervened to protect her and he remains hospitalized.

The attacker, identified only as Alex W., 28, remains in detention pending the outcome of an investigation on suspicion of murder. Charging a suspect typically takes months in Germany.

Al-Sherbini had already testified once against the man in court in November 2008, after which he was fined for calling her a "terrorist" and an "Islamist at a playground.

He had returned to court on July 1 to challenge the fine. Because the man was not considered a threat and had not been held in detention before the court session, there was no security surrounding the trial.

Many German courts, including that in Dresden, have no security checks at their entrance.

"This crime by a lone wolf destroyed a family's hopes within minutes," said Egyptian Ambassador Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy. "We expect the attacker to be swiftly sentenced and her family to receive justice."

Egyptians have expressed outrage at the attack, saying the German response has been too little, too late and serves as an example of racism and anti-Muslim sentiment.

Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed her condolences to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak during the Group of Eight summit in Italy on Thursday and sent her top official for immigration affairs to offer sympathy to al-Sherbini's husband, but has not publicly condemned the slaying.

Ramzy said he was convinced "that this act does not reflect the reality of the German people. The Germans have an open mind, including to people of other faiths," he said.

One of those at the memorial was Walerius Steinhauer who, like the attacker, was born in Russia of German forefathers and was allowed to emigrate after the collapse of communism in 1989.

"We Russian-Germans do not understand this young man. All of us are asking ourselves how could a Russian-German (immigrant) become a right-wing extremist?"

Others expressed similar outrage.

Tobias Weidlich, 29, brought his two young daughters to the memorial.

"The brutality and horror of this crime is unbelievable," he said.

The Hadeeth of Umm Zar'a (radiyallaahu 'anha)

Narrated 'Aishah (radiyallaahu 'anha)

'A'ishah reported that (one day) there sat together eleven women making an explicit promise amongst themselves that they would conceal nothing about their spouses.

The first one said: My husband is a sort of the meat of a lean camel placed at the top of a hill, which it is difficult to climb up, nor (the meat) is good enough that one finds in oneself the urge to take it away (from the top of that mountain).

The second one said: My husband (is so bad) that I am afraid I would not be able to describe his faults-both visible and invisible completely.

The third one said: My husband is a long-statured fellow (i. e. he lacks intelligence). If I give vent to my feelings about him, he would divorce me, and if I keep quiet I would be made to live in a state of suspense (neither completely abandoned by him nor entertained as his wife).

The fourth one said: My husband is like the night of Tihama (the night of Hijaz and Mecca), neither too cold nor hot, neither there is any fear of him nor grief.

The fifth one said: My husband is (like) a leopard as he enters the house, and behaves like a lion when he gets out, and he does not ask about that which he leaves in the house.

The sixth one said: So far as my husband is concerned, he eats so much that nothing is left back and when he drinks he drinks that no drop is left behind. And when he lies down he wraps his body and does not touch me so that he may know my grief.

The seventh one said: My husband is heavy in spirit, having no brightness in him, impotent, suffering from all kinds of conceivable diseases, heaving such rough manners that he may break my head or wound my body, or may do both.

The eighth one said: My husband is as sweet as the sweet-smelling plant, and as soft as the softness of the hare.

The ninth one said: My husband is the master of a lofty building, long-statured, having heaps of ashes (at his door) and his house is near the meeting place and the inn.

The tenth one said: My husband is Malik, and how fine Malik is, much above appreciation and praise (of mine). He has many folds of his camel, more in number than the pastures for them. When they (the camels) hear the sound of music they become sure that they are going to be slaughtered.

The eleventh one said: My husband is Abu Zar'a. How fine Abu Zar'a is! He has suspended in my ears heavy ornaments and (fed me liberally) that my tendons and bones are covered with fat. So he made me happy. He found me among the shepherds living in the side of the mountain, and he made me the owner of the horses, camels and lands and heaps of grain and he finds no fault with me. I sleep and get up in the morning (at my own sweet will) and drink to my heart's content. The mother of Abu Zar'a, how fine is the mother of Abu Zar'a! Her bundles are heavily packed (or receptacles in her house are filled to the brim) and the house quite spacious. So far as the son of Abu Zar'a is concerned, his bed is as soft as a green palm-stick drawn forth from its bark, or like a sword drawn forth from its scabbard, and whom just an arm of a lamb is enough to satiate. So far as the daughter of Abu Zar'a is concerned, how fine is the daughter of Abu Zar'a, obedient to her father, obedient to her mother, wearing sufficient flesh and a source of jealousy for her co-wife. As for the slave-girl of Abu Zar'a, how fine is she; she does not disclose our affairs to others (outside the four walls of the house). She does not remove our wheat, or provision, or take it forth, or squander it, but she preserves it faithfully (as a sacred trust). And she does not let the house fill with rubbish. One day Abu Zar'a went out (of his house) when the milk was churned in the vessels, that he met a woman, having two children like leopards playing with her pomegranates (chest) under her vest. He divorced me (Umm Zar'a) and married that woman (whom Abu Zar'a) met on the way. I (Umm Za'ra) later on married another person, a chief, who was an expert rider, and a fine archer: he bestowed upon me many gifts and gave me one pair of every kind of animal and said: Umm Zar'a, make use of everything (you need) and send forth to your parents (but the fact) is that even if I combine all the gifts that he bestowed upon me, they stand no comparison to the least gift of Abu Zar'a.

'A'ishah reported that Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said to me: I am for you as Abu Zar'a was for Umm Zar'a.

This hadeeth has been transmitted on the authority of Hisham ibn 'Urwa but with a slight variation of wording.
